This Man Is Sailing Around The World With His Pet CHICKEN And It's Adorable!

Everyone's heard that a dog is man's best friend - unless that man is Frenchman Guirec Soudée, who's best friend is a pet chicken.

Soudée and his feathered pet, named Monique, have been on a sailing tour of the world since May 2014. The 24-year-old picked up his egg-laying friend in the Canary Islands and immediately knew she was the pet for him.

"She was only about four or five months old then, and had never left the Canary Islands," he said. "I didn't speak any Spanish and she didn't speak any French, but we got along."

Rough seas are no joke, but Soudée says he takes great care of Monique and is quick to put her safely away in a hutch when the weather worsens.

"At the beginning, I was very worried," he said. "There would be huge waves and she might stumble, it would look for a second like she might go overboard, but she would always regain her footing. She's very brave."

The trip began from the hen's home, and since then, the two have sailed to St. Bart's in the Caribbean and to the Arctic. After completing their current journey through Greenland, Soudée and Monique will continue to Alaska.

The unlikely pet even lays six eggs a week, providing her owner with constant, healthy meals. Soudée says the trip wouldn't be the same without her.

"She follows me everywhere, and doesn't create any problems," he said. "All I need to do is shout 'Monique!' and she will come to me, sit on me, give me company. She is amazing."
