During the coronavirus pandemic, museums and public places are shut down due to public health concerns. But if you need your art fix during these times, worry not. A new app from Google Arts & Culture can turn a picture from your photo library into a work of art.
Art Transfer uses AI technology to reimagine your picture in the style of famous artists.
First things first, be sure to download the Arts & Culture app in the App Store or Google Play. Open the app, hit the camera icon at the bottom, and select Art Transfer. From this point, you can take a new picture or use an existing picture from your camera roll and Google will give you a variety of artistic styles to choose from. Among the styles to choose from are Edvard Munch’s The Scream and the pop art style of Yayoi Kusama.
The feature doesn’t simply act as a filter; it uses machine learning to edit the colors, textures, and shapes to alter the photo.
Google Arts & Culture rolled out a feature two years ago that allowed users to upload their selfies to see which work of art they most closely resemble.
After users download the app and have fun playing with the different filters, they are able to virtually explore landmarks and museums to get their cultural fix right from the comfort of their own home.
